Medical Disclaimer
Last updated: March 2026
Please read this disclaimer carefully before using SnapSnoreScore. This page explains the limitations of the app and its analysis capabilities.
1. SnapSnoreScore Is Not a Medical Device
SnapSnoreScore is a free, browser-based snoring detection tool designed for entertainment and general wellness awareness.
It has not been evaluated, cleared, or approved by:
- The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA)
- The European Medicines Agency (EMA)
- Any other national or international medical regulatory authority
SnapSnoreScore does not meet the definition of a medical device under any applicable regulation, including the EU Medical Device Regulation (MDR 2017/745) or the U.S. Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act.
2. Not Intended for Medical Use
SnapSnoreScore is not intended to:
- Diagnose any medical condition, including obstructive sleep apnea (OSA)
- Treat, cure, or prevent any disease or health condition
- Monitor vital signs or physiological parameters
- Replace professional medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment
- Serve as a substitute for a clinical sleep study (polysomnography)
The Snore Score (0–100) and snore level classifications (Quiet Sleeper, Light Snorer, Motorcycle, Chainsaw, Angry Bear) are informal, non-clinical metrics designed to provide a fun, relative indication of snoring intensity.
3. What SnapSnoreScore Does NOT Measure
SnapSnoreScore analyzes ambient sound patterns using your device's microphone and the Web Audio API. It does not measure:
- Blood oxygen saturation (SpO₂)
- Heart rate or heart rate variability
- Airflow or respiratory effort
- Brain activity (EEG) or sleep stages
- Muscle activity (EMG)
- Eye movements (EOG)
- Actual breathing pauses or apnea/hypopnea events
These parameters are required for a clinical diagnosis of sleep-disordered breathing and can only be measured with specialized medical equipment under professional supervision.
4. Sleep Apnea Risk Indicator
SnapSnoreScore includes a "Sleep Apnea Risk Indicator" feature that estimates potential risk based on sound pattern analysis only — specifically snore event frequency, volume, and duration.
This indicator:
- Is not a clinical screening tool
- Cannot detect actual apnea events (breathing cessation)
- Cannot replace validated screening questionnaires (e.g., STOP-Bang, Epworth Sleepiness Scale)
- Should not be used to make decisions about seeking or avoiding medical care
A "Low Risk" result from SnapSnoreScore does not mean you do not have sleep apnea. A "High Risk" result does not mean you have sleep apnea. Only a qualified healthcare professional can diagnose sleep apnea through proper clinical evaluation.
5. Accuracy Limitations
The accuracy of SnapSnoreScore's analysis is affected by numerous factors, including but not limited to:
- Background noise (traffic, fans, HVAC systems, pets, partners)
- Microphone quality and sensitivity of the user's device
- Distance and orientation between the device and the sleeper
- Device hardware performance and browser compatibility
- Room acoustics and environmental conditions
Results may vary significantly between sessions, devices, and environments. The Snore Score should be treated as a relative, informal metric — not an absolute measurement of snoring severity.
6. When to Seek Medical Attention
Regardless of your Snore Score, you should consult a qualified healthcare professional if you experience any of the following:
- Excessive daytime sleepiness or fatigue
- Observed pauses in breathing during sleep (reported by a bed partner)
- Gasping, choking, or snorting during sleep
- Morning headaches
- Difficulty concentrating or memory problems
- Frequent nighttime urination (nocturia)
- Mood changes, irritability, or depression
- High blood pressure
These symptoms may indicate obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) or other sleep disorders that require professional diagnosis and treatment. Untreated sleep apnea is associated with increased risk of cardiovascular disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes, and motor vehicle accidents.
7. No Doctor-Patient Relationship
Use of SnapSnoreScore does not create a doctor-patient relationship, healthcare provider relationship, or any professional advisory relationship between you and SnapSnoreScore or its creators.
The information provided by the app and on this website is for general informational purposes only and does not constitute medical advice.
8. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, SnapSnoreScore and its creators, developers, and operators shall not be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, or special damages arising from:
- Reliance on the Snore Score, Sleep Apnea Risk Indicator, or any analysis results
- Failure to seek medical attention based on app results
- Health decisions made using information from SnapSnoreScore
- Inaccurate, incomplete, or misleading analysis results
